Frequently Asked Questions

Here’s a selection of frequently asked questions. If you have a question that isn’t listed here please contact us.

Are all your products really handmade?

Yes.

Where are your berries from?

We pick them on friend’s farms.

Are there any other additives?

No.

What's the difference between jam & conserve?

A jam contains more sugar than fruit to produce a good ‘set’ whilst conserve has more fruit than sugar so the resulting ‘set’ is not as firm.

What's a fruit butter?

A fruit butter contains little, or in some cases no added sugar, honey can also be used as a sugar replacement.

What's the difference between a jam & a jelly?

A jam contains the fruit whilst a jelly is thickened juice.

Do your products contain preservatives?

We only use natural preservatives in the form of vinegars, lemon juice and sugar.

Do your jellies contain gelatine?

No! We don’t believe boiled, rendered animals need adding to our ingredients.

Can vegetarians/vegans eat your products?

Most of our products are suitable for vegetarians and vegans, only curds and those preserves containing ‘real ale’ are not.

Is your sugar Fair Trade?

The sugar we use is either ‘home grown’ from Silver Spoon or Fair Trade from Tate & Lyle.

Are your products Organic?

We are very careful where we pick our fruit and berries from, foraging areas that haven’t been sprayed.

How do you know you can eat them?

We have a significant amount of knowledge, researching all our ingredients throughly.
